BE A DITCH DIGGER 2Kings chapter 3 The King of Israel, the King of Judah and the King of Edom join together to fight the Moabites. The three kings take a 7 day roundabout trip to Moab through the wilderness. During their journey they run out of water and find themselves in a desperate situation so they seek direction from the Lord. But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there no prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of the Lord by him?" So one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, "Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah." And Jehoshaphat said, "The word of the Lord is with him." So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him. (2Kings 3:11-12) (Elisha says) But now bring me a musician." Then it happened, when the musician played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him. And he said, "Thus says the Lord: 'Make this valley full of ditches.' For thus says the Lord: 'You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.' And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord; He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand. (2Kings 3:15-18) The situation is desperate. Their lives are at stake and yet Elisha asks for a musician. Why? Worship Makes A Way Worship sets the atmosphere We say, “Lord, I need a miracle!” The Lord says, “Worship Me!” GOD’S WAYS ARE NOT OUR WAYS. Our way is to receive a miracle and then worship God. God’s way is for us to worship Him in every circumstance. Why did God tell them to fill the valley with ditches? They that expect God’s blessings must prepare for them. Elisha didn’t tell them to dig 1 or 2 ditches. He said to fill the valley with ditches. The Hebrew word for valley means dry riverbed. They found themselves in a place where water once flowed but now was dried up, parched, and empty. Couldn’t God have simply filled the dry riverbed with water again? He is an “exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we can ask or think God!” He not only filled the dry riverbed but also every ditch that the armies dug. No limits! The more ditches they dug, the more water they had. The deeper the ditch, the more water it held. They had to think big! Do you find yourself in a valley with nothing but a dry riverbed? Are you in a spiritual desert feeling that the water has run out? Are you feeling dry/parched because the streams you once depended on have dried up? Have rivers you took for granted run dry? Rejoice! God is setting you up for a miracle! BEGIN TO WORSHIP HIM. THINK BIG. EXPECT “THE MORE“! PICK UP YOUR SHOVEL AND FILL YOUR VALLEY WITH DITCHES. DIG DEEP CHANNELS IN YOUR HEART AND OPEN YOURSELF UP TO GOD, EXPECTING TO SEE HIS MIRACLES AND POWER. Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. 1Corinthians2:9
