Taking it to the Streets

House of Praise joined with two other churches in Columbus, MS for an unbelievable Outreach Weekend. An atmosphere of compassion and love was created by the unity of the three churches. We came together on Saturday afternoon, April 24, at the Charles Brown Baseball Field, which is surrounded by a housing complex in a rough area of Columbus. From the moment the blue and yellow Sidewalk Sunday School Truck pulled onto the property, children started pouring out of the homes and running from all directions to the field. The excitement of the children grew even stronger when a moonwalk was inflated. Children jumped, had their faces painted, and got helium balloons. We watched in amazement at how the smallest balloon could bring the biggest smile to a child's face.

We met many physical needs of the people by giving away 175 bags of groceries and serving free hot dogs, chips, popcorn, and drinks. Then we began to focus on the spiritual needs of everyone. Live Christian music filled the air continuously as the worship band from House of Praise played. Young children watched in awe as the Puppet Ministry performed. An original drama was presented by the House of Praise Drama Team. The response of the people was proof that the drama hit close to home. This opened up their hearts and minds to receive the free gift of Jesus Christ. Out of the 200 people present, the majority answered the call of salvation!

At the close of the event we held a drawing for door prizes. Among the prizes we gave away were water guns, lamps, two bikes, and a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. Everyone was grateful for the generous gifts.
